Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church

No one knows what to do when something so senseless and horrific happens.

We grieve for the people who were murdered, we hurt for their families, and we feel an awful sense of helplessness.

The familiar cycle is already in full swing – the media feeding frenzy, the politicians on their soapboxes, and the rest of us attacking and blaming each other.

But I hope we can stop – even momentarily – and make some space for empathy toward our fellow human beings. We quickly get immersed in our politics – but would do well to remember this is human tragedy and we’re all bewildered by the cruelty of it.
